Aggressive Fluid Vapor Recovery
Aggressive Fluid Vapor Recovery (AFVR) is a technology that is used for rapid recovery of liquid phase hydrocarbons such as gasoline or diesel fuel. AFVR uses a high-pressure vacuum to recover both fluids (groundwater and liquid phase hydrocarbons) and vapor phase hydrocarbons from monitoring or recovery wells. Southeast Response & Remediation, Inc. has fourfully equipped vacuum trucks each with unique capabilities.
Two vacuum trucks meet or exceed the new January 2, 1998 North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources guidelines for AFVR. This allows our customers to recover costs from the State Trust Fund that may be lost by using trucks not meeting the requirements. Both are equipped with stainless steel tanks made to Department of Transportation Specification DOT407/DOT412 and have a capacity of 3,500 gallons.
The blower on S-29 is rated by the manufacturer at 830-cfm free air and 600 cfm at 18" of vacuum. At 24" of vacuum the truck will move 400 cfm which exceeds the State's requirements. S-32's blower is rated at 3,600 cubic feet per minute. The roots type blowers on these trucks do not require oil or water injection for cooling and lubrication. Liquid ring type trucks can meet the state guidelines but increase disposal costs as the liquid used to cool the pump and create the vacuum becomes contaminated. Vane type pumps contain lubricating oil mist in their discharge, which makes accurate measurement of hydrocarbons in the exhaust impossible and cannot run continuously without overheating.
Our technicians are trained in AFVR and know how to make the event as smooth as possible for consultant and owner alike. The truck will arrive at your job site fully equipped with the proper stingers, adapters and hoses for performing an event.
With proper scheduling, SR&R has been able to work for the Reasonable Rates determined by the Trust Fund, allowing for rapid approval and billing.
SR&R does not provide engineering services required by the State of North Carolina Department of Water Quality for treatment of contaminated soils and groundwater caused by leaking underground storage tanks. However we work with several engineering firms on a routine basis which can be recommended upon request.
